“Hello?” Tomas called into the darkness, his voice echoing back at him. “Is anybody down there?” Only silence answered him from the depths of the hole.
He waited a long moment, his heart pounding. But nobody answered back. The tourists on the ridge above had gone completely quiet, too, watching to see what Tomas would do next.
