The ancient tradition of elephant guarding was dying along with his family, and Old Kibo knew it. His daughter would carry the knowledge forward for now, and hopefully the grandchildren would learn it too. But after them, there would simply be nobody left to protect the sacred herd. The tradition would finally end forever.
