Against one wall stood shelves filled with labeled jars, old ledgers, sharpened tools, folded clothes, and stacks of newspapers brittle with age.
Against another stood sacks heavy enough that I did not need them opened. This was not just a mine anymore. It was a life preserved underground, sealed away from weather.
