The crew hurried to lower the ship’s small inflatable boat into the dark water. They loaded it with ropes, a sturdy net, and thick blankets to warm the cub later. Elsa pulled on a survival suit and climbed aboard with two others. The little motor sputtered, then carried them slowly toward the broken, groaning ice formation.
