Daniel sat up slowly in his bed and held his breath, straining to listen for any unusual sounds. At first, he heard absolutely nothing except the soft ticking of his bedside clock. Then, very faintly, he caught the sound of something moving downstairs. A soft scrape, almost like a window being slowly opened.
