That’s when Mark decided to investigate.
He pulled on his work boots, grabbed a shovel from the garage, and walked out to where the ridge began. Standing over it, he could see the grass was slightly disturbed — not torn up, but pushed upward, as if something had traveled just beneath the surface without breaking through. He pressed his boot lightly against the raised earth. It was softer than the surrounding ground. Hollow, almost.
