The opening was barely wide enough to admit me sideways. I left my pack outside beneath a bush, kept only my headlamp, lighter, notebook, and pocketknife, then squeezed through. Stone pressed against my shoulders and chest until I thought I might panic. Then the passage widened, and darkness opened ahead like water.
