The creatures remained still, their beady eyes fixed on Mike and Luis from roughly twelve feet away. None advanced. None retreated. They simply watched. It felt deliberate, almost curious. Mike had the uneasy sense they weren’t being hunted yet. They were being observed, measured, and evaluated for reasons he didn’t understand.
