They parked in front of Paul’s house again, the neighborhood as peaceful and ordinary as ever. It felt strange returning here, carrying so much new weight inside him.
Paul glanced at Carter as he cut the engine. “Half,” he said firmly. “We split it. Evelyn wanted to help both of us.” Carter smiled faintly and nodded.
