The man surfaced, thrashing and gasping, clearly no strong swimmer, already being pulled away by the strange crossing currents. The tourists still aboard scrambled at the rails, reaching for him, but the choppy squares kept knocking their little boat sideways. They could not reach him, and the man was going under again and again.
