He knew every time somebody moved into Garnet down the hill. He watched from the trees or from vents above town, and whenever a newcomer seemed too settled he used the mountain against them. Sulfur smells after blasting. Knocks through buried pipes. Footsteps at night. Enough fear to send them away quickly.
