Tom blinked and looked again. There was no mistaking it. The shape had dark, round eyes and a compact, wet body pressed flat against the orca’s back.

It wasn’t moving much, it just held on to the large aquatic animal’s rubery skin with its paws. It was a sea otter, and somehow, impossibly, it was riding an orca.
