The shed seemed to shrink as he leaned closer, breath shallow. The crack deepened, splintering further with a muffled snap. Another shove pressed outward, rocking the fragile shell in its hay nest.
Ben’s throat tightened. He had prepared for this moment, yet nothing could truly ready him. The air was electric, thick with possibility. Whatever was inside was ready to emerge, unstoppable now.
